Nice. How come the shadows of the nearly transparent wings ended up being so dark and thick, though?

Well I'd say the use of Shadow Maps, because they don't support transparent materials...if he'd used raytraced shadows, he'd have transparent shadows...but with sharp edges...

I'd suggest an area-light with ray-traced shadows...long rendertimes, but worth the result

the insect looks a little detatched from the leaf but doesn't hurt the pic at all!

Yeah, looks much better now.
...maybe a little more specular and reflection in the wings?
I think they're supposed to look a little more glossy. Great job, though.

WOW I love the insect world so this really rings my bell. Excellent work. My only critique would be was the scene rendered as 1 because it does seem as if the Brown Hawker (I think thats the species) seems just a little like it has been added. I might be mistaken about this but I believe that there is supposed to be 10 abdomen sections and I can only make out 8 or 9 still thats by the by its still a brillient pic.
